2018 Incidents

CALL-OUT. The team was contacted late morning to assist police with a body recovery across rough ground.
Our sincere condolences go out to family and friends of the deceased.

CALL OUT. The team were called out just before midnight on Wednesday night to search for a missing vulnerable man. 11 team members searched through the night in the East Linton Area along with the police dogs and police helicopter. Neighbouring team Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue took over in the morning, and the man was finally traced safe and well outwith the search areas. 

A brief Callout just after we'd packed up from our Annual Mountain Rescue Experience Fundraising Day to assist an ambulance crew with a half mile stretcher carry on uneven ground near Coldstream.

The team were briefly put on Stand By along with Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team to search for a high risk missing person. They were stood down shortly after as the missing person had been located.

The team was called out to search for a missing person in the North Berwick area this morning. Thankfully the man was found safe and well a couple of hours later.

We had a brief callout last night to assist NMRS with the search for a missing man near Norham.
The man was found safe and well just after our first team member arrived on scene.

At 23:39, the team was requested to check Auchope hut and immediate surroundings for a family who were lost and low on food, having cycled their way into the hills.

The team made their way up onto the Pennine Way and found walkers in the hut but it was not the missing family.

Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team & North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team had also searched Yearning Saddle hut and surrounding area.

Our search area was extended and the family was found safe and well at 02:20 in a tent at Calroust.

We were called out at 20:30 to search for a missing elderly hiker who was reported to be 4 hours overdue at Cocklawfoot, having walked from Carter Bar. 
Team members set out from different points to cover a 20km potential search area. 
Northumberland National Park Mountain Rescue Team, North of Tyne Mountain Rescue Team, SARDA Southern Scotland and MCA Helicopter SAR were also involved.

Shortly after we commenced our search, the missing man turned up safe and well.
After descending into wrong valley, on the opposite side of the border, he phoned his wife from a farm house to report his location.

CALL-OUT to assist Scottish Ambulance Service to stretcher a casualty who had suffered a lower leg injury whilst descending North Berwick Law.

The woman's injury had been stabilised by ambulance crew by the time we arrived on scene and we worked with the Special Operations Response Team (SORT) from Newbridge & East Lothian Police to help to carry her down to the waiting ambulance.

Winter Reslience Work during the February 2018 snow storms and Red Weather alert. Taskings included patient transfers to hospitals, essential drug runs, getting key NHS staff to/from hospital, getting key workers in to Council HQ to coordinate the Council response, rescuing ambulances stuck in the snow, and transporting care workers. Team members braved tricky road conditions in their own cars to base themselves at the Scottish Borders Council Headquarters on permanent rotas over the 4 days, so that they could utilise our specialised 4x4 vehicles on a variety of tasks. Team members snatched sleep on the office floors in between tasks. Total team personal mileage was 1078! 

Another callout to assist the Ambulance Service during the Beast from the East.

Just as the team were standing down from civil resilience work when they were called back to Westruther to help transport a medical patient from his snowbound home to the waiting ambulance.

Team members were called out to help rescue motorists stuck in the snow on the main A68 road at Carter Bar.

Team members spent a total of 17 man hours transferring a patient from Berwick upon Tweed to Alnwick Infirmary.

The team were put on Standby for a vulnerable high risk missing individual in Kelso.

The team was requested to assist the ambulance service with a woman who had fallen on Black Hill near Earlston. The casualty had sustained a serious lower leg injury.
BSARU members had been on a training exercise outside Kelso so mobilised quickly to the scene.
