Total Raised
£4000
Organiser's Report
Last year’s sponsored walk took place on the 7st October 2007, and for the first time took place in the Lammermuir Hills near Longformacus.
A total of 94 people took part in the walk. 18 entrants took part in the 25km route which left Watch Water Reservoir, following the Southern Upland Way westwards before dropping to the Sebastopol lodge. From there it was back up over Wedder Lairs before dropping into the Dye Valley and back to Watch Water via the bridge at Dye Cottage.
The 16km Route cut out the visit to Sebastopol, and a phenomenal 54 people took part in this. Much of this was down to the Duke of Edinburgh group from Berwick High School using the walk for a practice, and they raised over £600 for the team. Well done folks!
The family walk was also popular, with 22 adults and children taking part. They all got a ride in a team vehicle to Dye Cottage, walking back over the hills to Watch Water, and calling in at our control trailer on the way! The Hogarths and Hardies deserve special mention, raising over £300 for the team.
The team couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome from this day. An unbelievable £4000 has been raised. This is double what our previous record was. I’d like to thank all those who made this incredible total possible. Firstly, the team members themselves, and their partners, who gave up many hours in planning and running the event. Secondly, the farmers and gamekeepers in the area who have been very kind to us: in particular the owner of the Watch Water Café who gave us free run of the place for the day! I should thank my own “better-half” for giving up a whole day to help me shuffle paper in control (and keep me sane). I should also thank all the shops who distribute entry packs for us, many of whom have done so for several years running: Tiso; Intersport; Rugbystore; Henderson Outdoor and Inspirations.
Lastly, I must thank all our entrants for making such an effort this year to raise an amazing amount for the team. Without your efforts the team simply wouldn’t exist. All the team look forward to meeting you at the start line again next year – Sunday, 5th October 2008 – A date for your diary!
With warmest regards,
Mark J Tennant
