Welcome to the Border Search & Rescue Unit
Border SAR is the Mountain Rescue Team that covers the south-east of Scotland, including the Lammermuir and Cheviot hill ranges. All members of the team are volunteers who are on call 24/7/365 to provide an essential emergency service, not just to hillwalkers, but to the whole community through the wide range of incidents we attend.
You can find out more about the team by exploring the website or catching up with us at any of the regular appearances we make at ride-outs, farmers' markets etc.
Remember that BorderSAR rely heavily on public donations to exist. There are many ways you can help us: donate money, arrange sponsored events, participate in the annual sponsored walk in the Autumn, etc. If you would like to know more, simply contact us - we are always happy to hear from our supporters.
BSARU was the first established Search and Rescue organisation in the south of Scotland or the north-east of England. We were officially set up in 1963, and last year, celebrated 50 years of continual voluntary service. We visited several local schools and attended events over the course of the year, receiving support for our essential work from many places.
WINTER SKILLS 2015
Our annual outing to the Cairngorms in February went ahead last weekend.
Day 1 was spent teaching, learning and reinforcing essential skills in winter mountaineering eg, use of ice axes, walking in crampons, snow and axe belays and much more.
Day 2 saw weather conditions deteriorate so a number of the team, seen in the photo took the opportunity to get some blizzard experience on Ben Vrackie. Could easily be in the Cheviots.
